Long Money Stokvel
Save together. Take turns.
Run your stokvel online — for groceries, a funeral plan, a birthday, Christmas, a car or any event. Everyone can see the payout calendar and who has paid, so there are no arguments and no lost notebooks.
How it works
Step 1
Start your group
Choose a name, what you're saving for, the monthly amount and how many members. You become the group admin.
Step 2
Invite members
Share your group code on WhatsApp. Each member joins with their name, surname, ID number and cellphone.
Step 3
Everyone picks a month
Each member chooses the month they'll receive the money. Each month can only belong to one person.
Step 4
Pay & track
Everyone pays every month. The admin ticks off who has paid, and marks the payout when the month's person receives it.
Example: a birthday stokvel
Five friends each pay R500 every month. Every month, all the money — R2 500 — goes to one person, on the month they chose. After five months everyone has had a turn.
Melissa is the group admin. She checks that everyone has paid and that the right person receives the money each month.
| Month | Receives R2 500 |
|---|---|
| June | MelissaAdmin |
| July | Oliver |
| August | Mo |
| September | June |
| October | Jackie |

Stokvel rules
Every Long Money Stokvel follows these basic rules. Your group can add its own rules too.
- 1Every member pays the same agreed amount every month.
- 2Each member chooses one payout month — only one person per month.
- 3In your month, every other member pays straight into your bank account.
- 4Pay by the group's pay-by day — the last day of the month, or a day your group chooses, like the 27th. You then get the group's extension (for example 5 days).
- 5Still not paid after the extension? The admin may charge the group's late fine (for example R100).
- 6If you've already received your payout, you keep paying until everyone has had their turn.
- 7The admin records every payment and payout, fairly and honestly.
- 8Every member names a beneficiary. If something happens to a member, the beneficiary claims online with a death certificate and proof of relationship, and the admin approves before the money is released.
- 9Everything you give us — ID, contact and banking details — is confidential and used only for your stokvel.
Long Money keeps your stokvel's records — it does not hold your stokvel's money. Members pay each other or your group's own bank account, as your group agrees. A stokvel is not a loan and not a bank account. We recommend that your group writes down its rules and registers with NASASA, the National Stokvel Association of South Africa.
