Stokvel Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Long Money looks after the personal information you give us when you start or join a Long Money Stokvel group. It follows South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). It is separate from the Long Money Lending Privacy Policy, which covers loans.
Your information is confidential.
Every detail you give us — your ID number, contact details, banking details and payment records — is confidential. We use it only to run your stokvel, we keep it secure, and we never sell it.
1. What we collect
- Your name, middle name(s), surname, ID or passport number, cellphone number and email address.
- Your banking details: bank, account holder, account number, branch code and account type.
- Your stokvel records: your group, payout month, payments recorded, payouts received, fines and invoices.
- Your beneficiary: their name, surname, ID number, cellphone number, relationship to you and, if you add them, their bank details. You confirm they agreed to share these.
- If a claim is made for a member: the claimant's details, relationship, bank details, the death certificate or other proof of what happened, proof of relationship and their ID.
2. Why we use it
- To run your stokvel's records, the payout calendar and the payment tracker.
- To show the other members where to pay you in your month.
- To let your admin confirm who each member is and contact members.
- To make your monthly invoice and statement.
- To check and pay out a claim if something happens to a member.
- To keep the service secure and to meet our legal duties.
We do not use your stokvel information for advertising, and we keep it separate from loan applications. We do not use it to decide on a loan unless you ask us to and give your permission.
3. Who can see what

Nobody outside your group can see your stokvel information, except authorised Long Money staff when they need to help or keep the service safe.
4. How we keep it safe
- Your information is stored securely and sent over an encrypted connection.
- You must sign in to see any stokvel. Each member only sees what the table above allows.
- Only authorised Long Money staff can open stokvel records, and only when they need to.
- Members and admins agree to keep other members' information confidential and use it only for the stokvel.
5. Sharing
We never sell or rent your information. We only share it with service providers who help us run the website and are bound to keep it confidential, or when the law requires us to.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your stokvel information while your group is active, and afterwards only as long as needed for the group's records or as the law requires. If a group is deleted, its records are deleted too.
7. Your rights
- See the information we hold about you.
- Correct it — you can change your own banking details and email on your group page at any time.
- Ask us to delete it, or object to how we use it.
- Complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa (inforegulator.org.za) if you are unhappy with how we handle your information.
